Side job or summer job? Check if you get money back from the IRS!

Do you have or did you have a side job? Then you pay taxes without noticing it. Your employer pays you, but at the same time also pays taxes on your behalf. You can often get some of that money back when you file your income tax return. You can get money back for up to 5 years and that can add up to a few hundred euros. File an income tax return for each year you had a part-time job and send it in.

Want to know exactly what taxes are like when you work? Take a look at belastingdienst.nl/jongeren. There you will find everything about filing a tax return and how to make sure you don’t pay too much tax. With the tax authorities’ tax return app you can check whether you get a refund and file your income tax return for the past year. In the app, almost all your information is already filled in for you. All you have to do is check it. So download the app in the App Store or Google Playstore and log in with your DigiD. Just like that! Would you like to file a tax return for other years? Then go to the online tax return program “Mijn Belastingdienst” through belastingdienst.nl/jongeren.

If you file before April 1 of each year, the money is usually in your account by the beginning of the summer vacations. If that is not possible, you can do it when it suits you. Usually it is then on your account within 3 months.
