This new position includes the following laboratory management responsibilities:
- Operational management of the laboratory including supervising the student assistants who are occupied with the software engineering assignments;
- Advising in innovation and modification of available equipment/software;
- Collaborating in the digital twin research community to build inspiring examples of twin environments;
- Management, expansion and maintenance of the equipment-(setups), including hard- and software;
- Managing software licenses and administrating design software;
- Supporting the research by contributing with designing and testing research setups, advising on choice of parts, equipment and materials;
- Health and safety procedures;
- Perform measurements and writing measurement reports.
We are looking for someone who understands the support of science and education. Other important assets are personal initiative, collaboration capacity, ability to switch between helicopter view and ground level and a well-developed common sense. We need someone who will proactively pick-up ideas and transform them into demos and working environments.
For the Lab Manager position, candidates are expected to have the following qualifications:
- Master or EngD or PhD in a relevant field;
- Experience in lab management, software engineering and in experimental validation;
- Organizational and supervising skills, e.g. in developing and implementing simple procedures, time management, guiding student assistants and ability to meet deadlines;
- Knowledge and experience in:
- Virtual Reality/Augmented Reality. (VR/AR)
- Unity & Unreal
- Graph databases (e.g. Neo4j or some other graph db)
- Other databases for time-series and geometric data (e.g. InfluxDB, Mongo)
- Security rules, VPN’s, etc.
- HPC, GPU’s
- Data acquisition;
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills;
- A desire and drive to work on demanding technical problems, and the ability to come up with creative solutions to these problems;
- Ability to share concepts, ideas and solutions with peers in a clear and concise manner without omitting the essentials;
- Good command of English and Dutch language .

- The salary depends on knowledge and experience.
- Fixed end-of year-bonus of 8.3% of the annual salary. The holiday allowance is 8% of the annual salary.

- The initial year contract may be extended or converted into a fixed contract. This decision depends on the development of the Lab pilot as well as the performance of the Lab manager and will be evaluated during the first year.

The Eindhoven Artificial Intelligent Systems Institute (EAISI) was established in the summer of 2019 as a cross-departmental institute. It has a staff consisting of a program acquisition team, a team focusing on (inter-)national positioning, and a scientific team. It builds on the strengths of AI research in the Data Science Center Eindhoven, the High-tech Systems Center, the strategic area Smart Mobility and ongoing collaborations among TU/e researchers.
EAISI’s goal is to increase the use of AI in real-time, autonomous decision-making for the benefit of society, the economy and science. Working for EAISI means having a direct impact, focusing especially on the areas of health, mobility and high-tech industry. The EAISI Digital Twin Lab
Rapid progress in digitalization and artificial intelligence is providing numerous opportunities for virtual and human-interaction research at TU/e. Connecting the real world to the digital world using Digital Twins is facilitated by an increasing availability of sensor information, which allows new applications in many different areas to be explored. EAISI, as the linking pin between TU/e departments and industry in AI, has started a Digital Twin Lab to support experiments in this area, in its three application areas of high-tech systems, health and mobility. The lab brings researchers together from the EAISI Digital Twin Research Community, to share experiences, reduce the cost of setting up experimental environments and to address the important societal issues. This community is large and represents a wide range of advanced research from across the TU. This typically involves modelling real-world situations and creating data interfaces between the real context and model. The Digital Twin lab provides tools such as Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) to allow deeper interaction with the virtual models, using advanced databases to support AI activities.
