Fundamental knowledge enables us to design solutions for the highly complex problems of today and tomorrow. Department of Industrial Design

The Department of Industrial Design (ID) is a young and rapidly growing department focusing on creating intelligent systems, products, and related services in a societal context. These a priori innovative systems enable people to interact with the environment in an optimal and flexible way. Research at the department of Industrial Design is focused on two areas or thematic clusters: Systemic Change and Future Everyday.

The Systemic Change (SC) cluster focuses on designing innovations that have impact on systemic structures and groups of people, ultimately aiming to address large-scale issues such as urban health, future mobility and sustainability. Field data is used in novel iterative and circular research-through-design processes involving strategic alliances of stakeholders.

The Future Everyday (FE) cluster investigates the everyday interactions between individual people and the highly interconnected technology that surrounds them. We measure, model and design for the user experience when individuals interact with social-technological networks in their homes, at work, in transit, while doing sport or going out.

Project Development Office (PDO)

The Project Development Office (PDO) is the department’s central hub for all activities related to acquisition of research funding and proposal/project development. PDO supports the researchers in finding interesting funding opportunities, developing their research ideas, coordinating with (inter-)national consortia and funding agencies and developing competitive project proposals.
